This happened today, in Florida.

In the passenger seat of our minivan

Heading north, heading home

I hear the talk radio and leave it on: for a dose of local culture.

Wait, what did he say? "You wanna talk about criminal justice reform?

Justice is needed

For the four Minneapolis cops serving time for murdering

George Floyd."

I won't say their names. I turned the station before I heard any more.

Before I saw the Confederate flag on the tailgate ahead.

Thank you for sharing this, Heidi. I am a native Virginian and know the south well. I have lived in New England for 40 years, but the south is still one of my homelands and such a paradoxical place for me. As for Florida, it is hard for me to understand what has happened there in this century. and the confederate flag, to me a viscious symbol of hate. I see it up here more than I would expect. I always want to ask "what does the symbol mean for you" and sometimes I do. I am glad you shared; I appreciate your voice.
