Friends,
Today is an exciting day, because it’s finally here and you get to see it—the cover of my new book, Living Resistance: An Indigenous Vision for Seeking Wholeness Every Day!
If you’re a paid subscriber, you’ve already seen it ( if you’d like to become a paid subscriber, you’ll get extra book bonuses over the next few months and you can subscribe at the button below), but today I’m showing it to all of my Substack followers before it goes live on social media.
Writing this book has taken me on a beautiful journey, and wow, what a time to write a book on resistance, right? You can read more about the book on my website, but here’s a description of what it’s about:
In an era in which “resistance” has become tokenized, popular Indigenous author Kaitlin Curtice reclaims it as a basic human calling. Resistance is for every human who longs to see their neighbors’ holistic flourishing. We each have a role to play in the world right where we are, and our everyday acts of resistance hold us all together.
Curtice shows that we can learn to practice embodied ways of belonging and connection to ourselves and one another through everyday practices, such as getting more in touch with our bodies, resting, and remembering our ancestors. She explores four “realms of resistance”—the personal, the communal, the ancestral, and the integral—and shows how these realms overlap and why all are needed for our liberation. Readers will be empowered to seek wholeness in whatever spheres of influence they inhabit.
And now, onto the cover reveal!
It was designed by Haudenosaunee artist Alanah Jewell, who goes by Morningstar Designs on Instagram—please follower her and check out her other incredible projects!
I’m so honored that my book is the first book cover Alanah has designed, and it is exactly what I wanted this book to represent.
The last thing I wanted for this book on embodying resistance was the typical raised fist. While I love the power of that image, I want you as readers to feel the fierce love and seasonal/cyclical nature of resistance, and I think this cover displays that so well.
Alanah captured exactly what my new book is about, how we embody and live resistance in our everyday lives as we learn to seek healing for ourselves, one another and Mother Earth. And see that Venn diagram design in the center of the book? That’s what the entire thing is centered around, and I cannot wait to share it with you!
What does the cover stir up in you? What do you feel when you look at it? I’d love to know in the comments.
In the coming months, you’ll be hearing plenty about this book, but for now, will you do a few things with me?
