"and please rest and take breaks from the heavy processing and thinking when you can". Thats a good idea. You can miss a lot of good stuff when you focus only on rushing flank speed to the finish line.

“… Jesus was about deconstruction.” os something I’m going to borrow and use often. Thank you, Kaitlin!

This piece is really helpful for me. I too am in a state of post-evangelical-fundamentalist-american-white-church PTSD. While walking with a friend on Saturday, the topic of Sunday and church-going casually came up and I said "I used to find comfort there--but not anymore" and I said it with a note of sadness I didn't know I was holding. I guess I'm past the anger/confusion stage more than I thought (3 years in). I too wish I could e-mail my entire high school of classmates (and staff) and say "I'M SO SORRY" for the conversion/salvation mini sermons. I'm at the point currently, where for me, "If it's not about love, it's not of God". End of story. Loving yourself, loving others, loving the earth--all things I was taught to either be a) submissive or b) fight the war of holiness.

Kaitlin, I hope one day to sit and chat with you--I think you'd be a lovely friend. :)

Same--- I had to come to that same realization about church, and it was painful and freeing at the same time.
