Your words bring calm to me, as I am an old woman with more doubts about what she used to believe than a puffy dandelion ready to blow away! And thinking tooo much about the crazy world we are in now.
Thank you for this retelling! I know this is a small thing, and it says more about me, but I was really warmed by the use of “They” for Mshike rather than trying to ascribe a gender to Turtle, to this foundational being. It rings true 🐢
I love this. I remember when I first read the story of skywoman in Robin Wall kimmerer's book braiding sweet grass it just took my breath away. What a beautiful, rich creation story. Thank you for the retelling.
Thank you for this post, Kaitlin. As a first generation immigrant to Turtle Island who has heard the story of skywoman told many times, I never quite thought of it through this lens of skywoman as an immigrant. I found your words very helpful in a time where immigration policies are changing both in USA and Canada.
My shift starts in 1 minute (!) so I need to be super brief (though I have so many thoughts). I will be carrying this post with into my workday of caregiving and meetings. Thank you so much for this beautiful, necessary story and your wise and loving words.
This story just absolutely slayed me. I've never heard it before and I love it. Seems to me that I have always been attracted to the indigenous cultures. Thank you so much for sharing this ❤️

So grateful you’re here!
Sacrifice is the foundation of everything.
“this new friend who gave up their entire being to become the foundation of everything.”
