Friends,
I take a deep breath today as I show up to this moment, this poem, on my birthday, on the Autumn Equinox. I think part of what makes it so special is the liminality of it all, showing up in this space that is here but not quite yet, that is now and also what’s to come.
That fills me with so much joy and hope and fullness, and today, we get to write a poem honoring that.
Today’s word is a personal favorite of mine, one that I use a lot (we’ve probably written a poem about it before, I can’t even remember all the words at this point!):
O N W A R D .
Onward—to what? Where? With others, or alone? What books and quotes and wisdom will you take with you? How are you showing up?
Onward
When I close my eyes I see the blank canvas that will make up my tomorrow, and slowly the faces, places and love that I have known up until now show up, peppering that landscape, and I realize that it was never blank at all, it just took my eyes and heart a few minutes to adjust.
As a thank-you for being here with me, below is a FREE 10-day poetry prompt download!
I’m calling it “Ten Days of Poetry and Peace” and here’s the description if you’d like to read before you download:

To kaitlin,
As you move onward to embrace the unfamiliar with courage and anticipation,
behave like a raven & observe every movement
with care
and adventure.
Happy birthday.
Long may you run.
Thanks Kaitlin for these prompts. Your poems this week have been deep and thought provoking. I have enjoyed writing from them and reading what others have shared. As for the today's prompt of "Onward", I am sharing a poem I wrote for Mabon, this autumnal equinox. As I move forward and ONWARD crossing the threshold of this time...
.
Standing before the portal
I reside in shrinking light.
Once the threshold is crossed
I enter the dark of night.
For a moment it’s an equal balance.
Where liminality blurs and blends.
A sacred union of opposites
that has no beginning or end
.
The underworld’s doorway is open.
An increasing darkness calls.
Summoning me with familiar echo’s
reverberating through the walls.
An invocation not of fear.
But a soft and recognizable whisper.
Into this sacred womb of being,
I ultimately surrender.
.
I posted this poem on my Mabon post, though edited a bit here:
