Eternity
My kid asked me
if I’d like to be
immortal
and I said
no.
I’d like to
believe
this life is
eternal, though,
that everything
we are today,
all the healing
and becoming,
and the life
that waits
for us tomorrow
lingers
and ripples
into the coming
generations
forever and ever.
Eternity
There is laundry to fold
inside, towering
in the corner chair.
But there are fireflies
in the dandelions
and I’ve been told
they might not be
around forever.
I spent an eternity waiting
In line at checkout at the grocery store
The other day.
I think I have actually said that.
And the universe rolled its eyes
