Friends,
How are you doing? Whether you’re joining us by sharing your poems, writing your own for personal use, or not writing at all, I’m so very glad you’re here and part of this community.
I feel a constant ease and slowing down as we head toward summer. We are in the midst of moving to a new home where we will garden, watch Netflix, cook good meals, run with the dogs, and yes, write poetry.
I love today’s word because it embodies this a bit for me. Can’t wait to read yours!
Seaside
There is a safe place I go in my head,
a seaside cottage with a big reading chair,
a lit fireplace surrounded by bookshelves,
and big bay windows that show her to me.
The waters don’t lie, they never have.
The water, she is a teacher, a warning,
a reminder of our very lifeblood.
The seaside cottage is a home
inside me, always there when
I need it most.
So I close my eyes,
take a deep breath,
and return there, ready to settle in
with a cup of coffee and a good book,
ready to ease in by the roaring fire,
ready to feel the vibration in my body,
a reminder of the crashing waves outside
the very windows that shelter me.
There, I am never alone.
Seaside
I stand on the edge
of the seaside shore,
the waves gently
lapping at my feet.
The call is to come,
come out to the deep,
but my feet won’t budge
from the sand.
The deep is unknown,
not safe, not safe,
and I might not
make it back home.
But the water keeps calling,
calling my name,
wooing me in
with the promise of more.
I want to go deeper,
go deeper still,
but first I must
leave from the shore.
Sitting on the sand
Staring at the Sea
Wondering what to write
As I think about me
Wondering where I fit
As the breeze softly caresses
Free right now this moment
From all the daily stresses
They often ask
Mountains or Seaside
Easy to answer
With the tide as my Guide
