Community
I found my third place
at a climbing gym,
the oddest of people
and the oddest of activities,
but home, nonetheless.
My friend found hers
in a desolate bar with
bad beer, but it’s sacred
all the same.
Another found theirs
at a church, at a mosque
or temple, with people
who hold them close
and remind them of love.
And still, someone else finds
community with their quilting club
or their yoga class or maybe
the hiking trail up the road.
You don’t know how it will show up,
community, so be ready, even as you
wait for that moment to be seen
and held and known by others
who are longing for the same.

Garden
The most valuable
and most powerful ability —
divine, human,
or otherwise —
is not the capacity
to do or accomplish
something extraordinary.
It is the ability to be present:
availability;
which is the garden
where the holy gift
of community
is planted, watered,
photosynthesized, and nurtured.
Little Ode to Community Care
What do you love?
Can I help you make the space
For you to be in a place
To enjoy one of those small
things today?
